They Say, I Say- ch 8-10
These chapters in They Say, I Say focuses on the way in which many students write. The first thing mentioned about is sentence structure. They see many students create sentence fragments and how they are unable to connect from sentence to sentence. To counteract this, they say to use different transition words and to go back to your main argument. You referring to the argument, they don't want to writer to make it seem overplayed, but to use it in a way in which the reader will remember the topic and what the paper is about. They next chapter talks about the mix between academic and colloquial writing. Depending on the writing piece, there is typically a desired mix between the two. You do not want to lose your own voice, even if it is an academic type writing piece. The final chapter addresses the topic of metacommentary. The job of metacommentary is to explain to the reader what you actually mean when you say one thing. this is useful in getting across ones point and allow the reader to fully understand what you are trying to say in your writing.

Source 10- Dawn of a Revolution in Health Care
"Dawn of a revolution in health care." New York Times 29 Sept. 2013: 10(L). Opposing Viewpoints In Context. Web. 21 Oct. 2013.
This article goes into the details of what the the ACA will provide for Americans. There are many different types of plans that Americans can get depending on what they can afford. There are bronze, silver, gold and platinum plans in which each plan covers different percentages of medical expenses for the person buying the insurance. Federal subsidies will be given out depending on what the family's annual income is and they will pay a certain percent. Yet many people will have different options on insurers depending on what state they live in, but everyone will at least have two choices and the prices will be lower where there is more competition between the different companies. By next year millions of uninsured American will finally be able to afford and have health care.
This article is useful to me because it shows the successes of the affordable care act already and what it will do for American citizens who were never able to go to the doctor or get the proper care that was needed. The amount of coverage that people get all depends on what they can afford so mostly anyone can sign up with a plan in which they pay very little for decent coverage.

Source 9- Obamacare: The rest of the story
Keller, Bill. "Obamacare: the rest of the story." New York Times 14 Oct. 2013: na(L). Opposing Viewpoints In Context. Web. 21 Oct. 2013.
Throughout the article, the author consistently talks about what Obama has done for America already and the successes it will bring to America and the health care world. It tells the reader that so far the Affordable Care Act has been doing its job of getting people enrolled and is also helping to lower prices and reform the original health care system. It has already created efficiency within the system and many new innovative medical practices and organizations have been developed in response to the new bill. Many of the new organizations were developed to help people not only get the treatment they need but to help them create a better lifestyle for themselves depending on what is wrong with the patients. It is said that they are going from "treatment of the disease to treatment of the patient."
This article is valuable because it is full on information and statistical facts that show what the law is doing before it even goes into full swing. This is useful in supporting my argument about the good that will come out from his new law and what it will do to help America in the long run. A healthier America will lead to a more successful and healthy place to live for the future.

"Mission Accomplished"
This Op-ed by Marissa Wolfe focuses on the issues of sexual assault in the military and what the VA and Army has been doing, or not doing about these issues. Many of the soldiers with PTSD are not getting the proper care to deal with the stress which is supposed to be provided to them after their service. This has been affecting women a lot lately because there are many cases of sexual harassment being reported and nothing has been done about it. Wolfe believes that more people should be experiencing consequences for sexually harassing a fellow soldier and says that if this occurred, there would likely be a downward shift in cases of sexual harassment filed.
Rogerian Rhetoric
The article about Rogerian rhetoric talks about a new way in which to form an opinionated writing piece. This idea came from the techniques that were used by therapists to encourage their patients to come to their own opinion or understanding. Three people used this idea and came up with four steps on how a Rogerian argument should be. First you introduce the problem, then go into the opponents position, then your personal opinion and then close it up with a statement on how your opinion is the better one. Yet, even though this method is successful, there are some criticisms about it. For example, some people believe that this technique pushes ones beliefs on others and is manipulative. The main goal is not to manipulate people but to create and analyze your own opinion as well as differing opinions. It is meant to be a learning experience for the writer.

Topic Proposal
In recent discussions of Affordable health care, a controversial issue has been whether to pass it or not. On one hand some argue that this bill is necessary and will help Americans gain insurance that they were never able to have before. From this perspective, it is believed that bill should be passed and it will push America forward. On the other hand, however, others argue that the addition of this health care about is immoral and infringing on peoples rights.
My own view is that the law should be passed and everyone deserves the right to have health care. Though i concede that there will be problems when this law goes into action, i still maintain that it is necessary for America to be successful. This issue is important because it is going to go into effect in a few months and has been the center of controversy in government over the past few weeks. This issue will be effecting many and everyone should have some knowledge about the issue.

Leary, Alex. "OBAMACARE GOLD: MILLENNIALS; Both sides in the battle aim to influence young people, who are a key element." Tampa Bay Times [St. Petersburg, FL] 13 Oct. 2013: 1A. Opposing Viewpoints In Context. Web. 16 Oct. 2013.
This article talks about how important young people, called Millenials are to the success or failure of the new Affordable Health Care bill. The need about 2 million young people to enroll in the program to ensure its future success. But there was been groups going around to college campuses discouraging many of these people to enroll in the program saying that there is too much government interference and that we do not want them now messing up their health insurance. Yet along with this group are others pushing the health care act to college students. They said when the students find out all the benefits that they can get from the new health care, it gets them more interested and excited about the new programs coming.
This is valuable because it speaks to me and my generation directly. This shows that in order for America to be successful the youth needs to be informed about whats going on and what the provisions of the new health care act will be. This article is useful because it does show two sides to the argument but clearly shows how the word about the health care act is getting throughout america.

"OPINION: A tour of health care -- The road to Obamacare is littered with past attempts at universal coverage." Anniston Star [Anniston, AL] 29 Sept. 2013. Opposing Viewpoints In Context. Web. 16 Oct. 2013.
This opinion article talks about the differing opinions about "Obamacare" and what it will do for America. It also goes through the history of health care in America and the ways in which many different presidents tried to create a universal health plan but could not succeed. Obama's bill was the first one to ever get passed and held constitutional by the Supreme Court, showing that there is a need and there is merit to this new law. It will be a fixture in American life if it turns out to be as successful as Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security is.
This is valuable because along with the background information about the way to get a universal health care system in America, it goes into Obama's universal health care and how it will be used in the future.

Source 4- Health Care Legislation
"Health Care Legislation." Opposing Viewpoints Online Collection. Detroit: Gale, 2013. Opposing Viewpoints In Context. Web. 16 Oct. 2013.
This article is an informative one on the health care legislation the Obama wants to put forth in America. He wants everyone to be able to have affordable health care and to be protected under the law. Because the insurance companies had so much power and hold over policy holders, the President believed there has to be a change. He wants people to be able to pay for it and not have to go through the insurance companies who continue to have their costs rising for consumer premiums. This will help people who had preexisting health conditions be able to get the coverage they were never able to have before. When it officially rolls out in 2014, employers will have to provide health insurance to their employees and all citizens will have to enroll.
This article is valuable because it gives insight to Obama's plans for the health care act. It is also important because it gives facts about what the plan actually is. It gives information about what some of the provisions are and how they will be enacted.

"Obamacare will improve health care for homeless, study says." New Haven Register [New Haven, CT] 10 Sept. 2013. Opposing Viewpoints In Context. Web. 16 Oct. 2013.
This
article talks about how the homeless will be covered for health insurance and Medicaid
after the affordable care act goes into place. This is because once it goes
into action, the system will be better and more coordinated in order to bring
people the health care that they need. All people under the federal poverty
line will be able to get the health care needed to survive. Many states have
already agreed to expanding Medicaid funds in order to bring the best service
to their citizens.
This
article is valuable because it shows how people will benefit from the new law. Many
people who never dreamed of having medical insurance will be able to have it now
and take care of themselves. This article also gives valuable information about
what states are doing and how the coverage will be expanded to people who live
under the poverty line. It gives useful facts on how the affordable health care
act will help Americans.

Pear, Robert. "Republicans Refuel Effort To Cripple Health Care Law." New York Times 2 Aug. 2013: A13(L). Opposing Viewpoints In Context. Web. 16 Oct. 2013.
This
article is mostly about the Republicans and their opinions towards the
affordable health care act. According to the article, the republicans will do
anything to stop the law from passing because they believe the law infringes on
the rights of Americans and they are also bitter because they were said to have
been left out of the decision process when making the law in the first place. It
is also mentioned that many problems will arise from this by employees cutting
workers hours in order to get out of paying for their health insurance. They
are indignant on not spending any money on Obama care and do not want it to
pass.
This
source is important because it gives a fairly recent idea of what people, in
the article especially republicans, on how they feel about the law and why they
will not pass it. This is useful in
getting more varied opinions about the law and what people think of it.
Source 3- Health Care:An Overview
"Health Insurance: An Overview." Points of View reference Center. Great Neck Publishing. 2013. Web. 16 Oct. 2013
This source also gives a background to health insurance and
health insurance in America. They talk about the different types of health
insurances, like private and government funded programs like Medicaid. Then it
begins to go into the debate about universal health care in America and whether
it will be a good thing. It is believed that the universal health plan would
lower costs of deductibles and premiums for customers and bring better health
care to Americans. But others believe that this can lower care for the citizens
because there will be so many patients now.
This is
valuable because it gives unbiased information about the health care plan, just
the facts that are necessary to understand It also gives opinions of the
different sides of the argument of whether a universal health care plan is good
or not. It is also a good source because it gives history to health insurance
and information on how it is today.
Source 2- Nuses Express Concerns about Health Law
Henneberger, Melinda. "Nurses express concerns about health law." Washington Post 19 Sept. 2013. Opposing Viewpoints In Context. Web. 16 Oct. 2013.
This article is about how at at nurse conference of 1,500 people, they talk about the positives and negatives of the Affordable Health Care Act in America. Many of the nurses there were divided in their opinions of this future new law and its enrollment process. Their first concern was pertaining to the hospitals and how they will continue to work with the new coverage for people. They believe that while the concept is good, but when it comes to reality, there might be discrepancies with how it is working and the most successful way to go about it is. Even though there could be problems many nurses also believe that with could come with many positives for the uninsured.
This source can be very valuable for someone analyzing the positives and negatives of the Affordable Health Care Act because the opinions come from the people who work first hand with patients. I can use this to talk about the effects that the new health care act will have on hospitals and their workers. This is also useful when getting the different takes on what they health care act will provide for tax paying American citizens.
Source 1-The Wonk Gap
Krugman, Paul. "The Wonk Gap." New York Times 9 Sept. 2013: A21(L). Opposing Viewpoints In Context. Web. 16 Oct. 2013.
This article talks about the affordable care act and how certain Republicans view it. The authors begins with how people find the affordable health care act very unpopular through America. But then goes into the good its done already in America. So far, with the bill many health care costs have already gone down which can be a good indication of what will come when it is actually in place. After this he goes into how the Republicans view this and the faulty information they get on these topics and how they number that they get can be very misleading.
This article is useful because it gives information about what the health care act is doing while giving political information along with it. This will be important when taking into consideration the different sides of the health care act, while assisting my side by showing some of the positives of this act.

They Say I Say
"They Say I Say" begins with an interpretative way in order to understand what people are attempting to say when they begin writing. We can learn that there are many different ways to interpret what people are saying based on how they begin to introduce their views. There are many different ways to start it up a writing piece and this book gives many templates in which a writer can begin to introduce their topic. As well as starting the writing piece, it is important to continue to incorporate the "they say" into all writings. As a writer, it is important to keep the readers attention so in order to do that, their opinions must continue to be taken into consideration. This further allows conversation on the topic of the writing and keeps the reader interested and give them the desire to continue reading.
The next section of the book talks about The Art of Summarizing which talks about how important summarizing is in a paper. Summarizing is important in writing because it can bring a lot of credibility to your writing when researching topics. Yet, one problem with summarizing is that you don't want to take credit for others information but you want to incorporate it into your own words along with your own information. It is important "to make sure that your "they say" and "I say" are well matched"(35) in your writings. Also list summaries should be avoided because they are boring and do not keep the reader interested in whatever they are reading. Along with keeping the reader interested in what you are writing, word choice is an important and useful tool to use when summarizing and quoting authors.
The final section is all about the proper way to use and incorporate quotations into your writing. There are many wrong and right ways in which to use quotes. First of all, the quotes must be relevant to what the you are trying to assert into your writing. A quote in used to give your paper more credibility but the "I say" should also clearly be heard. Quotes are there to support your claim and in order to do that, they must be framed properly by blending the authors word with your own. The framing of a quote is the most important part because when done incorrectly, the quotes can seem to be redundant or misleading in the writings.

Easy Writer "Research"
In the "Research" section of the Easy Writer book, they talk a lot about how to prepare writing for a research paper. The first topic mentioned in the section is beginning the research process. First you narrow down your topic to your working thesis in which you will next begin the research process. The writer then wants to look for credible sources. To ensure that the source is credible, it's necessary that the source has proper credentials. For example an article should have an abstract, title, publisher or sponsor, author credentials, a publication date and works cited. This is important to check because if faulty information in used in a research paper, the entire paper can be seen as false. It is also important to make sure that the source is useful and relevant to your paper to increase its credibility. The accuracy will further enhance the paper.
Other processes that are important when creating a research paper is the idea of taking notes and citing sources. When taking notes it is important write down only the relevant information and major points of the source. As well as notes, keeping a list of the sources used and how to access them will greatly ease the work of finding valuable sources. When citing it is important to give credit to authors when it is due. Quoting and citing the works is a crucial part of any paper. If incorrectly summarized or paraphrased, it is possible it can be seen as plagiarism which automatically gives no validity to the paper.

Analyzing Editorial and Opinion Pieces
In the analyzing editorial and opinion pieces we get to read different articles and directly after we analyze and compare the articles. The piece started off with information about editorial and opinion pieces. Editorials have been a large part of newspapers and magazines since the beginning of the creation of newspapers, which later grew into the opinion pieces, which are very similar to editorials. This has become even more prevalent since the invention of the internet and its wide spread use around the world. The main goal of the opinion piece is to help communicate to the public about specific issues and actions taken around the world. Its goal is to also connect with different groups and communities displaying a desired goal.
Writers also have to make sure they know who their audience is and appeal to them. But they also are known to shape how people feel. The author tries to persuade the audience to feel a certain way about the topic and possibly shift their values and beliefs. This is done by appealing to both intellect and emotions. The best way for editorial and opinion pieces to have an effect on the reader is to relate to them in an intellectual but more importantly in an emotional way.
